Don Mathern, owner of Idaho Insurance Specialists, began his insurance career in Montana in 1969. He started out with American Mutual Insurance Company. He went to work for American Fidelity Insurance Company and was the company representative in Montana, Idaho and Oregon. Don then transferred to Boise, Idaho to work for American Fidelity and then joined the Marsh McLennan agency.
In 1989 he started his own company, Idaho Insurance Specialists as an independent agency. His agency expanded with a satellite office in Hailey, Idaho in 1996.
Don represents many insurance carriers in Idaho. He has been awarded the District 3 Agent of the year with Regence Blue Shield of Idaho in 2003 for top sales achievement. His agency is at the Emerald Level with Blue Cross of Idaho for continued sales retention. He represents various companies in the Long Term Care, Dental, and Life insurance industry.
Don has expertise in the Medicare Products arena that are available in Idaho. He helps all his clients on an annual basis to review their plans to make sure the plan fits his client’s needs.
Don is two times past President of the Idaho Association of Health Underwriters. He is a David Isern award recipient, for outstanding service in the health insurance industry in the state of Idaho. He is an award recipient for the Leading Producer Round Table for the National Association of Health Underwriters for the past 13 years. He is the recipient of the Scott Leavitt award for outstanding representation of the state of Idaho to the National Association of Health Underwriters.
Don has resided in Boise, Idaho since 1985. He is an avid white water rafter, and volunteers at the Maximum Security Prison in Boise. He and his wife of 49 years, Brooks, have three children and 6 grandchildren. Don is a 1969 graduate of Montana State University.
Brooks Mathern is the Executive Administrator for Insurance Specialists and is located at the Boise location. She has been with Insurance Specialists since its inception. She is in charge of the accounting and record keeping in the office. She takes care of agent licensing, computer needs and anything else that is needed in the office.
Brooks has a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. She graduated from Boise State University in 1996.
Brooks and her husband, Don, of 49 years, have lived in Boise for 33 years. They moved to Boise from Billings, Montana. They have three grown children and 6 grandchildren. Their son Bryce lives in Denver, Colorado with his wife and twin boys. Troy lives in Washington with his wife and two children. Their daughter, Michelle and her husband, live in Hailey, Idaho with their children.
Brooks likes to attend football games and watch them on TV. She is the Saturday arm chair coach for any college football team. She likes to read, swim and spend time with friends and family.

Michelle Sandoz has been an independent broker with Idaho Insurance Specialists since 1998. She specializes in group and individual medical plans, life insurance, Medicare supplements and Medicare Advantage plans for clients over 65, Long term care products and Disability products.
She is versed in the Affordable Care Act to assist her clients in making the best decision for their health care needs.
Michelle attended Columbia Basin College on a volleyball scholarship. She was awarded Women Athlete of the Year and was involved in Student Government.
Her experience in business began upon her graduation from Oregon State University in 1991. Her degree is in Corporate Wellness. She was employed with Bonneville Power Administration in Portland, Oregon as a fitness specialist. She was a personal trainer and taught aerobics for Nike and other Portland area health clubs.
In 1995 Michelle worked with Interior Design Nutritionals. This opportunity took her to Europe and Asia. She resided in South Korea and in Bangkok, Thailand for nearly three years. While in Bangkok she worked as an assistant manager in the health club and spa at J.W. Marriot Hotel and taught English as a second language.
Michelle moved back to the United States in October, 1998. At that time she began her insurance career in Hailey as agent and manager of the Hailey office for Insurance Specialists. Michelle is a member of the both the National and Idaho Association of Health Underwriters. She has traveled to Washington, DC to speak with our congressmen on insurance issues of Idaho during the Capital conference with the National Association of Health Underwriters.
Since 2011 she has been a member of the Leading Producers Round Table and now obtaining a life time membership. She has received recognition from health insurance companies in the state of Idaho and is a Select Broker.
Michelle has multiple interests. She has been a leader for Young Life working with high school kids, and is now involved on Parent Council at the Syringa Mountain School.
She loves skiing, mountain biking, hiking and camping with her family.
Michelle and her husband and two children live in Hailey, Idaho.
